Over the past several years, we have had the delightful experience of breeding Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Generally speaking all puppies are cute. The difference with Rhodesian Ridgebacks is when they mature they become creatures of high intelligence, dignity, speed, power, courage, grace and fidelity.

We at MaraTana Rhodesian Ridgebacks dedicate this page in the memory of our lost loyal friends....

MaraTana’s Nilaja Dayo “Indy”

November 21, 2004 - June 9, 2006

“...I imagine what will stick with me more than anything is the character, faith and loyalty always reflected in her (Indy) eyes. This was not a sulky pet. She was always enthusiastic and ready to give kisses! But I also miss the soothing effect of petting her. She had what I called a “tan line” or “bikini line” where the lighter bands lay around her front shoulders and neck. Then the darker face set off her eyes perfectly. but besides the many different tones that made her so incredibly beautiful, the texture of her coat was a joy to experience and had a calming effect on me. No wonder pets are so good for people confined to hospitals and care facilities! ...I tried to choose a photo ... that would capture the many facets of her -- external beauty, physical strength, stamina and pride -- yet also that part of her that was still young, willful, zestful, spontaneous and ever curious.”

OBI 2007

Obi Onami was an integral part of our family.  When we moved from Austin to a ranch in deep south Texas he was my rock and best friend in this new land.  I will never forget his patience, kindness, and wonderful heart.  I will miss him always.
